Sri Lanka has topped a recent poll looking into cheap, overseas holidays.
The luxury holidays destination was found to be the cheapest of all the 40 locations surveyed by the Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer.
It is a fall of almost one-third in the cost of tourist staples that has made Sri Lanka cheapest.
Despite its luxury status, a cup of coffee costs as little as 47p, with a three-course evening meal for two adults (including a bottle of house wine) in local restaurant costing less than £20.
The poll looked at the cost of items such as dinner for two, light refreshments and suncream at eight popular tourist items in 40 holiday destinations worldwide.
In Europe, Spain has overtaken Portugal to become the continent's cheapest holiday destination.
Just £5 divides Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia for the title of cheapest Far Eastern destination but Thailand is the cheapest according to the report.
