Holidaymakers bound for Phuket, Thailand's largest island, cannot afford to miss the historic elegance of the Old Phuket Town.
Dotted by many attractions, including shrines, museums, exotic cafes, and Chinese and Buddhist temples, the locality is ideal for voracious backpackers on Thailand holidays.
The structural network of the city emerged on the wealth of tin trade that prospered in Phuket in the 19th and 20th centuries, when the metal was very much in demand, as well as on the lofty traditions of Chinese architecture.
Vividly constructed Sino-colonial mansions, as well as unique shop structures that again speak volumes on the versatility of Chinese architectural tradition, also add to the list of attractions that are worth a tour.
Elements of classic European architecture too can be found on some of the age-old structures like Phuket courthouse, Siam City Bank and the Provincial Hall.
