Figures have shown an increase in the number of holidaymakers going on
breaks to the Maldives this year.
The Tourism Ministry said that 669,172 tourists took Maldives holidays between January and September this year - up
17% year-on-year.
The figures also showed a 14.9% rise in the number of people visiting
the Maldives last month when compared to the same period in 2010.
A total of 24,480 beds were operated by resorts and hotels in the
Maldives in the first nine months of 2011, while figures showed an
average occupancy rate of 71.5%.
The figures also showed that thousands of British tourists had chosen
the Maldives as their latest luxury holidays destination, underpinning
how much the destination has to offer to people looking for a relaxing
break.
