Dubai is looking to extend its accommodation portfolio with plans for more than 13,300 hotel rooms, figures have shown.

More and more people are becoming interested in Dubai holidays , with Ernst & Young saying the destination has a "magnetic attraction".

Research from STR Global reveals that the region's plans to build new hotel rooms amount to more than the combined total of the next four largest markets, with 13,349 rooms in the pipeline.

Next in line is Abu Dhabi, with a planned 5,298 hotel rooms awaiting construction.

Dubai's success has made it the only destination in the region to record a rise in occupancy and revenue per room.

Yousef Wahbah, MENA head of transaction real estate at Ernst & Young, said: "Duabi has been successful in attracting a larger share of the GCC tourism market."

The future looks bright for Dubai hotels and the area's offering of luxury holidays.
