Those who want a challenge for the New Year may be interested in trying the Dubai marathon, taking place at the end of the month.
Starting at the American University Dubai, the race goes round the city taking in some of the most iconic sites in the Middle East, and ends at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.
If you are up for the challenge, the Dubai Standard Chartered Marathon takes place on January 27.
For those not quite ready for the full marathon yet, shorter races of 10 and three kilometres take place on the same day.
