The Dubai International Airport welcomed a record number of passengers last month as it cemented its status as a global travel hub.

Figures show that a staggering 4.7 million people used the airport in July, providing further evidence that Dubai holidays are continuing to attract people around the world.

There were 400,000 more travellers passing through Dubai International in the month compared to June.

According to its managers, the airport catered for 29.2 million travellers in the seven months to July - up 9% from the same period last year.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive officer of Dubai Airports, said the new figures "further illustrate Dubai International Airport's emergence as a pre-eminent global hub".

In October, the emirate is hosting the first leg of the Fina Swimming World Cup which could prompt even more sports fans to opt for all-inclusive Dubai trips.
