Teenage pupils from Bolton School have undertaken a fortnight-long trip to Tanzania to study about the Maasai tribe.
The year 10 girls befriended the members of the tribe on the internet and then chose the east African country for their project on the impact of tourism on tribal life.
The innovations of modern technology - Skype, Vodafone and USB dongle - have helped the girls talk directly to the tribal community members from their classroom.
The trip allowed the girls to fully immerse themselves in African life and provided a real cultural exchange, according to teachers of the school.
"I could equally have stayed out there forever. It has honestly been the best trip of my life," said student Scarlett Tankard.
Tribal life and traditions form a vital aspect of the cultural tradition of Tanzania, which is also known for its unique safari destinations.
