Backpackers planning Dubai holidays will find it easier to commute between old and new Dubai with the launch of the new green Metro line next month.

The opening of the Metro's new line will enable rail users to change between the green and red line at Union and Khalid bin Al Waleed stations, according to the country's Roads and Transport Authority.

The new line will have an extra 23 km of track and 18 additional stops.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister and vice-president of the UAE, will officially open the new route on September 9.

A significant increase in the number of people using the Metro network is expected with the opening of the new line.
