The number of international tourists visiting Asia Pacific destinations
in September rose 5.7% compared with the corresponding period in 2010,
according to new figures released by the Pacific Asia Travel Association
(PATA).
Positive performances were recorded by all Asia Pacific sub-regions.
Figures showed that 11% more tourists visited South Asia in September.
The sub-region welcomed almost 60,000 more international visitors in
September 2011, compared with the year-ago period.
There were significant increases in arrivals in South Asia's individual
destinations, namely Bhutan,Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Martin Craigs, chief executive of PATA, said: "International arrivals
momentum into the Asia/Pacific region continues to hold at a relatively
strong average rate of around 6%."
Although an increasing number of people took luxury holidays in Asia
Pacific destinations in September, the total visitor number was 1% down
on the August figure.
