During the final months of last year, online searches for holidays reached a total of 3.1 million, and there were more searches for Africa than there were for the Far East, Caribbean or South East Asia, a report said.
The article, written by Greenlight digital marketing agency and named 'Holidays Issue 11', says there were 7% and 8% increases in short haul and long haul destination searches, respectively.
These figures compare with those in Greenlight's August 2011 report.
Some may say the perfect twin centre holiday would begin in Kenya , with its unique culture and wildlife, then move on to visit another destination, maybe in Europe, where there is a contrasting, but similarly intriguing, environment.
The majority of holiday search queries by UK consumers in 2011 were for European hotspots, but North America was not far behind.
In November, however, Africa took the lead from North America and became the second most-searched-for holiday destination, taking a 17% share of holiday web searches.
