A trip around Africa can be a very enriching experience for gap year students and a valuable addition to their resumes when job hunting, according to an expert.
East Africa, which offers a wide variety of travel options including wildlife safaris and Zanzibar holidays, is among the best places to spend time exploring new landscapes and learning about different cultures.
Adventure trips to faraway destinations are already growing in popularity among young people aged between 18 and 24, new studies show.
According to Lonely Planet's Tom Hall, a cycling tour in the African region is a much recommended activity for youngsters.
He said: "East and south Africa are great places for a cycling odyssey, with plenty of opportunities to get off the beaten track in countries like Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia."
Mr Hall said such trips would bring out abilities - including planning skills, endurance and enterprise - that will help young people throughout their future careers.
