Hurricane Tomas

(01 November 2011)

The island of Saint Lucia experienced the passage of Hurricane Tomas in the last 48 hours. At this time, the government is assessing the damage.

Initial reports indicate fallen trees, damaged roads restricting access to various areas, loss of power and Internet across the island. The island's hotels experienced minimal damage; flooding to some accommodations and landscaping.

However, although the hotels have not sustained any major damage it would appear that the roads and bridges have sustained some substantial damage and this has been compounded by mud slides in various areas.
