Located on the southern tip of Sri Lanka, the port of Galle is a historic fortress city steeped in old colonial atmosphere. Sri Lanka’s fourth largest town, it was the island’s main port until the late 1800s and boasts an amazing fort where you can admire Dutch colonial architecture.

In Galle’s Old Town you can buy jewellery studded with Sri Lankan gems, vibrant textiles, spices and antiques – as well as local handicrafts such as wood-carved masks, batiks, hand-loomed saris and sarongs. Markets sell fruit, vegetables and flowers.
