Built around the famous 12th century Benedictine monastery, Engelberg has now developed into a wonderful mountain resort and famous winter ski area. Extensive hiking trails, excursions by mountain trains, family activities and mountain biking make for a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. One of six cable cars takes you up the 10,000 feet high glacier of Mount Titlis, a perpetual deep-freeze. Here, enjoy the highest viewpoint in central Switzerland, awesome glaciers and the world’s first revolving cable car. The pedestrian centre of Engelberg has shops, cafés and a sports centre.

Kids Activities

The day nursery and kindergarten located at the Tiltis cableway station provides supervision by the hour or the whole day from Monday to Friday for babies and children of all ages. There is even supervision available for kids after ski lessons and an entertainment programme from 2.30pm. The ski school offers state of the art teaching techniques to provide children with the best possible training whilst having fun with children’s facilities at Brunni or at Klostermatte in the village. Snowli Village for 4-5 years £171 and Ski Youth 6-15 years £171 (both five days and include lunch). Prebooking is recommended.

Sports

Cross-country skiing, flying fox, air boarding, paragliding, terrain park at Jochpass, build an igloo, horse-drawn sleigh ride, snowshoe tours, a two mile toboggan run, winter hiking and Nordic walking paths plus a leisure centre with indoor pool, sauna, tennis, fitness room and ice rink.

Après ski is young and informal with ski huts, bars, pubs and discos plus a casino. The Yucatan music bar is a must for a lively late night. Over 50 restaurants within the resort offer a wide choice of culinary delights.

Tipping

Not expected as hotel restaurants are legally obliged to include a service charge of around 15% on bills. Even taxis usually have an added charge.
