The majestic Lake Maggiore, with its three enchanting islands, is often called the most scenic of the Italian lakes. Known locally as ‘Verbana’, which is a flower growing abundantly along its shores, it is Italy's second largest lake. Stresa, Maggiore’s most captivating town, poses beautifully under the majestic peak of Mottarone, just across from the mystical Borromean Islands. Baveno is Stresa’s quieter sister, connected by a beautiful villa lined road. • Cannero is spellbinding and well worth a visit, with steep cobbled lanes that lead down to the lakeside. The views here are particularly beautiful.
