A unique experience in itself and a must for any first time traveller to India, Rajasthan is known as the "Land of the Maharajahs" and is India at its magical best. Across the region are countless forts and elaborate palaces – not forgetting the mesmerising chaos of "Pink City" Jaipur."

Jaipur Snapshot

As if beckoning you through the crowds a snake charmer’s meandering tune penetrates the chatter, its nasal tones and rhythmic serenade captivating his muse as it sways gently before him. With cattle lowing and traders hawking, only the din of Indian pop music and the drone of autorickshaws pollute the timeless sensation of Jaipur’s Johri Bazaar.

This beautiful 'Pink City' is home to opulent palaces and the Amber Fort

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and its old walled section is known as the ‘Pink City’ after its prominent buildings that are awash with this colour. Built in only eight years and mostly designed by the Maharaja of the Kuchwaha Rajputs, Jai Singh II, it is noted for its wide boulevards, grid-plan streets, maze of bazaars and opulent palaces.

Jaipur Holiday Highlights

•  Visit Jaipur’s famous Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) early in the morning when its red and pink sandstone facade is soaked in incredible golden sunlight.
•  The City Palace is an exquisite complex of Rajhastani and Mughal architecture also housing a museum and art gallery.

•  Just 10 kilometres outside of Jaipur lies Galta, an 18th century sacred site. The Monkey Temple here is worth a visit at sunset when monkeys can be seen swimming in the sacred pools.

•  Half an hour drive out of the city, the unique Amber Fort and Palace lies overlooking the Maota Lake, soaked in history and stunning architecture.
