Currency

The currency is the Tanzania shilling (TSh) which is divided into 100 cents. Coins range from 5 to 20 TSh, banknotes from 50 to 1,000 TSh.

Climate / season

The coastal areas are hot and humid with an average daytime temperature of 30ºC. From June to September the sea breezes make the climate very pleasant. The Central Plateau experiences hot days and cool nights. The hilly country between the coast and the northern highlands has a pleasant climate from January to September with temperatures averaging around 20ºC. Temperatures vary around Kilimanjaro according to the season, during May to August registering a low 15ºC during December to March registering a high 22ºC.

For the whole country the hottest months are from October to February. The long rainy season is from mid-March to late May.

Clothing

Lightweight clothing in brown, beige and khaki are recommended and a sweater for the early morning and evening. A hat is a must to avoid sunstroke.
