Destination introduction

The Kruger National Park covers an area of 18,989 square kilometres and houses up to approximately 147 species of mammal, 517 species of bird and 114 species of reptile. It has 9 main gates that allow entrance to the different camps and is also a UNESCO designated area.

All of the Big Five can be found at Kruger National Park, so it is ideal for those looking for big game but due to it’s range of eco-systems, it is has a great level of diversity in both flora and fauna you can find anywhere else and is home to roughly 1,982 species of plant.

Kruger has a subtropical climate so the best time for observing wildlife is in the dry winter season when vegetation is sparse and the animals congregate at waterholes to drink. The end of November and early December is the birthing period so the park is filled with baby animals. Summer is the rainy season so everything springs into bloom and the park look lush and dense. However, this does make it harder to locate animals as the rivers and undergrowth is full. Autumn is the least popular time of year for spotting big game but is great for those looking to enjoy some bird spotting.
