Situated on the unspoilt shores of Lake Victoria in a secluded bay close to a charming local village, this peaceful hideaway is the perfect accompaniment to a Maasai Mara safari. See the colourful life on the lake, where Luo fishing villages have not changed in centuries, relax, swim or fish.

Accommodation

The six light, airy cottages with their elegant four poster beds are perched directly on the lakeshore. Each has been built in the Luo tribal style, with banana thatch and natural clay, and is sensitively decorated in rustic African shades. All offer spectacular vistas across the lake with picturesque dhows sailing by. For something extra special, the magnificent honeymoon suite revels in astonishing 360 degree vistas of the lake.

Enjoy superb cuisine served overlooking the lake; the kitchen emphasises freshness and simplicity, with a daily catch of Nile Perch and freshly made crusty bread accompanied by chilled wines. There are no vehicles on the island; transport is by colourful local canoes. Guests can enjoy a variety of activities and excursions, including bird-watching, fishing, cultural walks, watersports, visits to Nyakweri village and its primary school, trail walks and even day trips by plane to the bird watcher’s haven of Kakamega Forest. Within the confines of the lavish camp, enjoy the lovely horizon swimming pool on the lakeshore, or take advantage of the soothing spa treatments.

Surrounded by magnificent tropical gardens that border on the bay. 10 minute charter flight or 3 hour road and boat transfer from Kisumu Airport, or 40 minute charter flight and 20 minute boat transfer from Governors’ Maasa Mara.
