DAILY from Sharm El Sheikh

DAY 1 From Sharm you will head to Sarabit El Khadem (via the Suez Tunnel) where turquoise was extensively mined by the ancient Egyptians. A moderately steep trek (approx. two hours) will take you to the summit of Sarabit mountain to visit the Hathor Temple, dedicated to the goddess of Turquoise and Copper. Overnight in the coastal town of Ras Sudr at the Moon Beach hotel or similar.

DAY 2 Drive to St Catherine via Wadi Firan and Deir El Sabaa Banat (the monastery of the 7 ladies). Stay overnight at St Catherine hotel or similar.

DAY 3 The highlight of the trip is an early morning trek of Mount Sinai (where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments), to enjoy the sunrise over the rugged mountain landscape. This is followed by a visit to the monastery founded by Empress Helena in 337AD. Fortified through the centuries against raiders, today visitors can see the 6th Century church, medieval monks’ quarters and a shrub descended from the ‘Burning Bush’.
