Discover some of Egypt's least visited sights in this adventure through the Fayoum Oasis. See the fascinating whale skeletons at Wadi El Hitan and explore protected Wadi El Rayan.
TOUR INCLUDES → Based on 2 sharing, including one night accommodation at the desert camp, breakfast, packed lunch and dinner and 4X4 transfers with an English speaking guide.
Drive to Fayoum stopping en route to visit the pharonic temple of Qasr el Sagha. Although never completed, its construction is unique in Egypt with irregularly shaped blocks that resemble the Inca structures of South America. From here, head to the remains of the city of Dima, originally a Greco-Roman town, in the heart of the arid desert where you can enjoy a picnic lunch. After lunch, head to the fascinating and remote UNESCO World Heritage sight at Wadi El Hitan or “Whale Valley”, with its abundance of fossilised whale skeletons. Discovered just over 100 years ago, it is the most important site in the world to demonstrate the evolution of the whales from a land to a marine existence.
Overnight stay in a desert camp and after breakfast drive to Wadi El Rayan, famous for its waterfalls created as a result of drainage programmes in the 1970’s. Visit one of the falls then drive through the dunes and beautiful scenery as you head to the pottery village of Tunis on Lake Quarun – Egypt’s largest salt water lake. Visit the pottery schools and shops founded by a Swiss potter in 1970. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to Cairo.
From February to April and October to November.
