Before my first trip to Africa a friend told me that once you have the soil of Africa on your shoes, the love for Africa will never leave your heart.

Africa – its very name gets into your blood and there’s always something new to discover or a special place to return to. Just imagine the first sight of that special animal you have always wanted to see and suddenly it is in front of you. The first animal I ever saw on safari was a ground squirrel, and I have never looked back.

The experiences you can have are magical: the first look at a tiny baby mountain gorilla cradled in its mother’s arms; a very cross chimpanzee being disturbed by heavy rain; taking a walking safari and seeing the tiny insects and the plants that you would miss if you were on a vehicle and knowing that you are in their world, and that just for a little while you are a privileged guest. And the people of Africa are warm and so welcoming; if you can, make time to visit a local school where the children may sing for you. Many of our camps, as well as the Kuoni team, assist local schools and have, through donations, helped build new classrooms and supported them.

There are still so many places left to explore – I am already thinking of my next trip. My Africa, I hope you can share it with me."
