This landmark hotel is one of Rhode Island’s fanciest. It oozes a sense of history and claims the best views in town.

Opened in 1926, Hotel Viking is part of Newport’s story. Like much of the hotel, the 208 rooms are infused with an air of Gilded Age romance. Period-inspired furnishings (the likes of four-poster beds, chaises, and antique armoires) are enhanced by modern additions such as squishy mattress toppers and thundering rain showers. If you can splurge, the suites featuring parlours and fireplaces are out of this world.
