The Royal Sands Koh Rong

A majestic getaway

A Cambodian paradise with private villas dotted along a 500-metre stretch of immaculate beach.

You’ll arrive at the resort on a private luxury boat from Sihanoukville, stepping into the luxury folds of this beachfront resort and welcomed with a smile from a team dedicated to making your stay exceedingly relaxing. Before you’ve even explored your villa, the draw of the floury beach will likely prove irresistible, dotted with coconut palms, and gently lapped by turquoise waters. Then pad your way across the warm sand to your private abode, one of a collection of 67 white-washed villas arranged across the beach like an exclusive village for paradise-seekers.

Why we love The Royal Sands Koh Rong

  • The thatched, standalone villas offer space and a sense of escapism, and they all have sea views

  • Watch the sunset in the comfy half-moon seating arranged around a roaring firepit as the sky is painted with amber streaks

  • Spot the area’s incredible bioluminescent plankton glowing at nighttime

  • It’s easy to get out and about to explore the exotic jungle of Koh Rong either on foot or by bike

When it comes to eating and drinking, there’s a wonderful simplicity at The Royal Sands. A single main restaurant opens for a buffet breakfast and welcomes guests back for elegant a la carte dinners. Throughout the rest of the day, the beachside Chill Bar & Grill is your main go-to, offering a lunch menu and refreshments all day.

Ocean Restaurant
An open-sided pavilion commands a prime spot in the resort and you’ll look forward to the views here as much as the expansive buffet breakfast and fresh dishes served à la carte for dinner.

Chill Bar & Grill
Right on the beach, the Chill Bar & Grill has bar seating, love seats for two, a dining area, and casual seating arranged around firepits.

We love ordering an icy drink from Chill Bar and sipping it slowly around a firepit with our toes in the sand.

The resort’s Senses Spa features a semi open-air sala for massages and an outdoor area dedicated to meditation and yoga. Within the spa itself, there are private overwater treatment room for therapies, some of which have glass floors so you can spy tropical fish in the water below.

Try paddleboarding or kayaking on the calm and clear waters. The resort has its own PADI dive centre with a selection of courses available for different abilities. There are safe and shallow dive sites nearby.

Solar panels have been installed on all walkways and gardens. There are water-saving taps throughout the resort and the gardens are maintained with conserved wastewater. In the guest rooms, glass water bottles are provided instead of plastic and eco-friendly bath products are restocked in refillable bottles.

There isn’t a kids' club here, but babysitting is available on request. Villas can come with two beds instead of a single super king, although for more space, consider the two-bedroom villa that also comes with an oversized private pool.
