Recommended itinerary

Day 1

Tortuguera National Park

Depart from your San Jose hotel and head to Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, travelling through Braulio Carrillo National Park and stopping for a traditional breakfast on the way. Cruise to your lodge and settle in on arrival. Following lunch, you could just relax by the pool or head to Tortuguero Village where you can visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy (entrance excluded). If you’re visiting between July and September, you’ll have the option to take a night walk to the beach to observe the nesting sea turtles.

Day 2

Tortuguera National Park

Breakfast is followed by the first of a couple of two-hour boat trips through the canals of the national park. Enjoy the relaxing morning ambience and keep an eye out for vibrant birds and jungle animals as you travel along dapple-light-scattered waterways. A second boat cruise is included in the afternoon, when the jungle takes on a different vibe.

Day 3

Tortuguera National Park

Return by boat to the dock after breakfast and then transfer back to San Jose by bus, with lunch served when you make stop along the way. You’ll arrive in the capital at approximately 5pm.
