Originally named by Christopher Columbus as ‘Santa Ursula y las Once Mil Virgenes’ (Saint Ursula and her 11,000 virgins), the Virgin Islands are split into the United States Virgin Islands to the west and the British Virgin Islands to the east. With their rugged peaks, unspoilt palm-fringed beaches and vivid turquoise waters, these islands truly are paradisiacal.

The main islands comprise of Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada and Tortola, with the airport located on Beef Island, connected to Tortola by bridge. A host of private islands also exist here, offering exclusive and utterly luxurious escapes.
