The Hawaiian "Garden Isle"; of Kauai holds itself gently aloof from the rest, and cannot be seen from any of the others apart from its mysterious private neighbour Niihau.
A good road circles most of the island but mercifully leaves the Na Pali Coast untouched, though that coast is better seen by other means; foot, boat or helicopter.
Kauai holiday highlights
Explore the rugged grandeur of Waimea Canyon, which is proudly known as the ‘Grand Canyon of the Pacific’. An earthquake that almost split Kauai into two islands created the canyon. It measures ten miles long and is over 3,500 ft deep.
