Zermatt is a captivating, car free, old mountain village on the Italian border of the canton of Valais in the west of Switzerland.  Zermatt lies at the foot of the incredible Matterhorn, one of the most impressive mountains in the world. Since the first ascent of Matterhorn in 1865, Zermatt has been visited by mountaineers from across the globe and offers inspiring views, fresh Alpine air, world class restaurants and fantastic hotels.  In the summer, Zermatt even offers early morning skiing as long as you are early, with the lifts closing at 1pm.

•   Take a ride on an Air Zermatt helicopter around the top of Matterhorn for outstanding views. flying close to the classic mountain.
•   Stroll around the Matterhorn Museum, exhibiting Zermatt's history displayed as an archaeological dig.  
•   Ride the Gornergrat railway, Europe's highest open air cogwheel train.
•   The Matterhorn express takes just 12 minutes to reach Schwarzsee paradise where you will find a restaurant and sun terrace to take in the amazing view. The Schwarzsee is a beautiful lake with a small chapel.

Kids Activities

The Snowflakes club offers parents the opportunity to enjoy their time on the snow whilst the children are looked after in the middle of the ski area of Schwarzsee by specially trained personnel. The Snowflakes Kids Park is fitted out with a rolling carpet to make it easier for kids to experience their first steps towards skiing. Five half days with lunch £304 per child.

Zermatt has something to suit all tastes and pockets with a multitude of restaurants, snow bars, pubs with live music and several night clubs. There is a very friendly feel throughout the village and this entices non skiers just to enjoy the atmosphere and delights of après ski.

Excursions

Fly above the beautiful mountains surrounding Zermatt with the famous Air Zermatt. While flying around the Matterhorn you will see the world-famous mountain from a perspective that usually only mountaineers do. 20 minute flight £138 per person (minimum four people).

Tipping

Not expected as hotel restaurants are legally obliged to include a service charge of around 15% on bills. Even taxis usually have an added charge.
