Ajman holidays

Discover the smallest emirate's lovely blend of old and new

Often dwarfed by their larger than life counterparts, smaller emirates like Ajman are emerging as charming holiday destinations with fabulous new hotels.

Steeped in history, Ajman is a picturesque gem reminiscent of Arabian folklore. A wonderful mix of old and new, simplicity and sophistication, head here for a relaxing stay with glorious uncrowded beaches - and vibrant Dubai still nearby.

Ajman holiday highlights
•   Book dinner in the sand dunes. You'll take a camel ride into the desert before relaxing on comfortable low cushions in a Bedu style encampment for a BBQ feast under the starlit canopy.
•   Unwind on white-sand beaches, keeping your eyes peeled for dolphins frolicking in the warm waters.
•   Browse for bargains at the souk, well-known for its unique architecture.

Ajman Multi-Centre holidays
Combine Ajman with one of the larger emirates - perhaps preceed your stay with a stint in glittering Dubai, enjoying duty-free shopping and marvelling at soaring landmarks. Or continue on to other destinations, such as Oman or Bangkok.

Dhow Yard
The world's largest boat building yard, here dhows are built using traditional tools and methods.

Many relics have been unearthed at this fascinating archeological site, including a tomb.

o  Hummus (chickpea and sesame seed dip)
    o  Moutabel (aubergine puree)

    o  Arabic bread

o  Hareis (simmered wheat and tender lamb)
o  Meshwi (a mixed grill of various types of meat and sausage)
o  Locally caught fish or shellfish.
•  For a snack, try shawarma - slivers of grilled lamb carved from a vertical spit and served with salad in a pocket of Arab bread.
