Khao Lak is a scenic, sleepy beach resort, just one hour’s drive north of Phuket island. An undeveloped Phuket of 20 years ago with a glorious beach that stretches for miles and is studded with smooth granite boulders.
Khao Lak highlights:
•Chong Fah Waterfall is great for hot days, very scenic and accessible to all and Lampi Waterfall, though further away is stunning in the early morning as the suns rays shine through the mist.
•Police Boat 813 – At the time of the tragic 2004 tsunami, the son of former Royal Princess Ubol Ratana was holidaying around Khao Lak, tragically he was jet-skiing at the time of the tsunami with two police boat escorts. One boat was sunk whilst the other was swept inland where it has remained as a memorial of the event.
•Khao Sok National Park has a range of fun and exciting activities including jungle footing either on foot or by elephant and rafting and canoeing.
•Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park is home to a number of waterfalls, the most popular being the Lam Ru waterfall, thought there is a closer one only 10km from the park headquarters. It is at the end of a short track which requires a 4x4 vehicle to traverse and was once used as a forest retreat for Buddhist monks. Their shrine and what’s left of their shelter are nearby.
