Siem Reap holidays

Visit the incredible temples of Angkor Wat

Lying in north-west Cambodia, Siem Reap is best known as the gateway to Angkor. Thanks to its closeness to the ancient site, this once sleepy town is now the country's fastest-growing city, and boasts a good selection of shops and restaurants.

Siem Reap holiday highlights
•   Visit Angkor Wat, a spectacular moated mausoleum-temple. Once dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu, this incomparable landmark is now a peaceful Buddhist complex with imposing lotus towers, elegant courtyards and intricate carvings.
•   Discover the huge walled city of Angkor Thom. Gigantic faces smile down at you from every tower of the chaotic but endearing temple of Bayon at its heart.
•   Marvel at the peaceful, exquisitely decorated temple of Preah Khan and the magical ruined temple-monastery of Ta Phrom, being slowly reclaimed by the jungle.

NB
Visit the Angkor temples either late afternoon or early morning to avoid the midday heat - sunrise or sunset are favourites. You can travel to Angkor independently, but it's well worth booking an informative guide.
