Discover this unspoilt land on a Bhutan tour

This destination

Bhutan 'The Land of the Thunder Dragon' is recognised as one of the happiest countries in the world and is the only country to measure and take into account its Gross National Happiness. Its capital Thimpu, the smallest capital city in the world, is a thriving city made up of traditional buildings with a strong Buddhist influence. Bhutan holidays will introduce you to a land who prizes its cultural and historical integrity above flashy technology filled with tales of legendary heroism and great natural beauty.

The doors of tourism have opened just a crack with few visitors permitted, because the main aim of this wonderful land of monasteries, carved wooden houses and intricate crafts, is to preserve its ancient culture.

Choose from a wide selection of Asia holidays.

The Ngultrum is the currency of Bhutan though Indian rupees and US dollars are also widely accepted.

Monetary Affairs

You won’t be able to use ATMs in Bhutan and it is recommended you exchange your money for US dollars or the Indian rupee which are accepted throughout Bhutan. The main currency of Bhutan is the Ngultrum.

Passports and Visas

You should ensure you have your passport, that it is valid for more than six months and has adequate pages for stamps, especially if you plan on travelling via India or Nepal. Also bring another form of identification and a photocopy of your passport in case of an incident where you passport is lost.

Tipping

Tipping is officially discouraged in Bhutan, but is becoming an increasingly common practice. Tour guides generally expect to be tipped and many tour leaders have taken to circulating a collection to present to the guide at the end. When trekking it generally depends firstly on whether they are already being paid for the use of their animals and how useful they have been around the camp.
