Shongololo means millipede - a word that seems rather apt, as the Express winds its way overland on trans African journeys. With a choice of cabins and sightseeing packages, Shongololo is an exciting way of seeing Southern Africa. You can extend your journey with a coach tour along the beautiful Garden Route.

Travelling the length and breadth of the country, the Shongololo offers those on board a chance to visit all of the must-see attractions of this vast country in comfort and style.
Your first day is set aside to acclimatise to living aboard the train and also offers the opportunity for you to explore the busy city of Johannesburg, with optional visits to Pretoria and Soweto also available. From here embark upon your journey to the beautiful and world renowned Panorama Route, an area of out standing natural beauty peppered with unique geographical features. Visit the village of Pilgrims rest, the great Blyde River Canyon, the Three Rondavels and Bourke’s Luck Potholes.
Enjoy a full day game drive around the Kruger National Park in search of the Big Five. With over 19,000 square kilometres, the park is one of the largest in Africa and home to a vast array of game and plant life. You'll visit the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve at the heart of Zululand - once the exclusive royal hunting ground of King Shaka - before enjoying a cruise on the St Lucia Estuary.
Explore the city of Durban, South Africa's third largest city and drive along the Golden Mile Promenade, visit the Victoria Market and either the botanical gardens or the uShaka Marine World. Wind towards the Drakensberg Mountains as you journey to the Battlefields where you will learn about the Anglo Boer War.
Bloemfontein is the seat of the South African judicial system and Kimberley is the capital city of the Northern Cape Province, well known for its Big Hole and the discovery of the diamonds that led to the establishment of the city in 1893. You can visit the Anglo-Boer War Museum, William Humphrey Art Gallery and the Macgregor House War Museum.
Gaze out over the rolling green valleys of the Cape Winelands framed by mountain ranges. Visit Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl for wine tasting and whale watching! Continue on to Cape Town with the iconic Table Mountain dominating the skyline and visit Cape Point, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Hout Bay, Boulder's Penguin Colony and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
