Sharm El Sheikh holidays

This destination

Set against a backdrop of mountain peaks and open desert ‘Sharm’ is at the southern tip of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Arid landscapes contrast beautifully with the crystal waters of the Red Sea. Excellent for a sunny break, snorkelling and diving.

Sharm el-Sheikh holiday highlights
• The diving - Ras Mohammed Marine Park where large quantities of plankton support an extraordinary reef ecosystem, is justly renowned, but Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef constitute other 'must-dive' areas and the Straits of Tiran offer fine wreck and drift diving opportunities.

• The enchanting 6th Century Monastery of St Catherine, at the foot of Mount Sinai (which may be climbed for sensational sunrise views) and on the site of the Burning Bush, through which God spoke to Moses.

• Activities such as desert quad biking, camel safaris and golf at the Movenpick championship course.

Beaches

Few beaches are public beaches, most belong to the hotels and are found on each bay with small sections that are available to all.
Characteristics: Coarse-grained sand, gently sloping, almost everywhere. Hotel Beaches partly artificially created and are protected by coral reefs. Entry into the sea via a jetty.
