Ike is currently a category two hurricane moving over the Gulf of Mexico. He is likely to intensify in the next day or so and impact land near Louisiana on Saturday as a category three storm.
The Foreign Office have now updated their advice to advise against all but essential travel to certain areas of Cuba, including Holguin, Pinar Del Rio and Isla de Juventud in Cuba.
Kuoni Policy:
The Kuoni Operations department and Travel Collection will be courtesy calling any clients due to travel to Varadero, Havana or Jibocoa to inform them that their holiday will be going ahead as planned but to bear in mind the possibility of superficial damage around the resorts. This will include clients travelling up to and including 17 September.
Travel Collection clients travelling to Cayo Levisa or Soroa will be contacted and advised that we are waiting for further information. We will be amending holidays to these areas to alternative resorts. This will include departures up to and including 17 September.
Passengers due to travel to Holguin this weekend will be contacted and offered alternative holidays.
Passengers due to travel to Cienfuegos or central Cuba will be courtesy called up to and including 17 September. Clients will be informed that we await further information from resort.
The Kuoni UK operations team, duty officer and local representatives in resort in conjunction with the Federation of Tour Operators (FTO) are continually monitoring the progress of Ike and are contacting customers with updates on an on going basis.
