Kuoni is proud to sponsor the Serpentine Gallery's: Manifestos for the 21st Century
Yoko Ono, Brian Eno, Gilbert & George and others present their views on the future on 18th and 19th October 2008
Leading luxury travel specialist, Kuoni, is delighted to support Manifesto Marathon at the Serpentine Gallery on 18th and 19th October 2008 during the Frieze Art Fair. The 2008 Manifesto Marathon signals the latest spectacular event in an on-going series of Kuoni collaborations with prominent experts from worlds of contemporary lifestyle, fashion, art, architecture, music and literature, highlighting Kuoni's pioneering lead in the new culture of travelling and partnership with the arts.
On 18th and 19th September Yoko Ono, Gilbert & George, Brian Eno, Terence Koh, Tom McCarthy, Franz West, Christian Boltanski and Jonas Mekas will be amongst many others from the worlds of art, architecture, science, literature, philosophy, music, fashion and film presenting their “Manifestos for the 21st Century” over a two-day ‘futurological congress' in the park. This year's Manifesto Marathon is the third in a series of Marathon events, conceived by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Serpentine Gallery Co-Director of Exhibitions and Programmes and Director of International Projects. It will draw on the Serpentine Gallery's close proximity with Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park and promotes forward thinking and freedom of speech.
The Kuoni and Serpentine Gallery relationship is based on a common sense of curiosity and passion for innovation. By sponsoring the prestigious Manifesto Marathon Kuoni further emphasises its commitment to developing their new culture of travel. Moreover the concept of the Manifesto Marathon mirrors closely the Kuoni Getaway Council – an ever evolving group of prolific experts and innovative thinkers from different fields, industries and countries – which was set up as a platform for exchanging ideas and finding new ways to innovate in travel. With a deeper understanding of contemporary culture resulting from these forums Kuoni seeks a new, different perspective on the future of travel and from there can develop a vision which crosses new borders and delivers services beyond that of the conventional travel agency. Kuoni believes that service and knowledge, across the worlds of contemporary lifestyle, fashion, art, architecture, nature and urbanity are fundamental to the new culture of travelling and to driving the industry standards forward into the 21st Century.
Reto Wilhelm, Member of the Kuoni Executive Board and Head of Division Style explains, “We are proud to be working together with the Serpentine Gallery and the Manifesto Marathon. We are looking forward to the enlightening encounters of this co-operation that will open up new dimensions for the future of travel and enable us to further deliver to our client unique and authentic products and services.”
Manifesto Marathon, the third in the Serpentine Gallery's acclaimed series of Marathon events in the annual Park Nights programme takes place on the 18 and 19 October in the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2008, designed by Frank Gehry.
